BIO

Hello, my name is Jay. From early childhood I have loved to problem-solve -- taking apart my toys more than playing with them, building go-carts and tree forts, modifying remote-control toys to make them do things they were not intended to do, and often just tinkering in my dad’s woodshop. Once a teenager, I had to put away the toys and start planning a career. Fortunately my parents encouraged my dreams of becoming an architect or engineer. A deep-seated passion for math and science led me to mechanical engineering.

Starting with a BSME degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Cincinnati, I am now a licensed professional engineer (PE) with over 30 years of experience in HVAC design and engineering and have worked for an industrial chemical manufacturer, equipment distributor, and design-build mechanical contractor – all experiences that have given me a greater perspective on my industry.

I started an independent consulting business in 2005 so that I could work on projects that interest me, with clients who value my talents, and fill a niche in the HVACR industry. I am licensed and actively working on projects in North Carolina, Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. Clients and colleagues know me as a motivated, experienced, and conscientious problem-solving engineer. When you hire Mechanical Edge, you get ME.

If your project needs additional resources for electrical, architectural or structural elements, Mechanical Edge will assemble a team of sub-consultants to meet those needs. If we can't, we will be happy to refer you to someone who can.

When the work is done you will find me on the local Appalachian trails hiking and biking -- when the weather turns cold, heading to the slopes – or just being in the moment with nature. And tinkering in my own woodshop with both practical and artistic projects.
